Janelle Monae
Tonight was hands down, one of the most energetic, artistic, musical performances I have seen in years. The show was Janelle Monae and the venue was the very intimate Schubas Tavern in Chicago. The multi-media show began with Monae and her band entering the stage in black hooded cloaks as a futuristic video was projected onto the wall of the sold out venue. As soon as the video stopped the music started, and didn't stop for about a solid hour. Monae is a performer to the likes of James Brown or Prince, she controls the crowd with her infectious dance moves and amazing voice. I haven't been this impressed by a new artist in a long time, so catch this chick in an intimate venue before its too late. That means you my Detroit people she's at St Andrews Hall Friday night.

Blues at Blues and The Mines
Just got done going through a handful of shots from a fun night out full of Chicago Blues. The night started at Blues on Halsted with The Chicago Rhythm and Blues Kings. These guys have been around for a long time and really know how to play. The group was short one man, Sax player "Daddy G," who was out sick, all though he was missed they still killed. Next we went over to Kingston Mines where Vino Louden was playing. It was a great night full of local talent. There's so much of it in this city its ridiculous. 7 nights a week, 365 days a year, there's solid music in Chicago. I love this city.

The Macpodz and some recent work
This weekend I have a very full schedule of live music and photography! On Friday I start my weekend in Evanston at one of my favorite venues, Space, where I will catch the very funky very talented Macpodz. I will probably bring my camera to catch a few live shots, which I may be able to incorporate into our promo photo shoot we're doing together on Saturday. I have some great ideas for the guys, I can't wait to get in the studio and make it happen. Also due to my lack of postings as of late, I have some new shots up from the Natives of the New Dawn in San Diego Cali, and a Portrait session with Matt Burke and the Matt Burke band. Check em' out, enjoy. I will post again as soon as I get the weekends work processed!
